The Fayette Business Education Partnership (FBEP), an initiative of the Fayette Chamber of Commerce and the Redstone Foundation, hosted its Mechanical Design Competition, introducing engineering to middle school students from across the region.

Funded by EQT, the competition was held over two sessions, beginning with a hands-on learning day followed by a competitive design challenge. Students were introduced to the fundamentals of hydraulics and pneumatics, applying real-world engineering concepts to design and build functional mechanical systems.

This year’s competition featured 20 student teams representing 13 school districts across Fayette, Westmoreland, and Washington counties.

This year’s overall winner was Greensburg Salem – Team Gold. Laurel Highlands Middle School took second place, while Penn-Trafford Middle School – Team 2 took third place.

Franklin Regional – Team 1 won for best portfolio; St. John the Evangelist Regional Catholic School won for best design; Leechburg won for best teamwork.
