Just Cook It: Resolving to eat healthier
New Year’s resolutions are something I personally hold near and dear to my heart.
This topic of commitment and positive change is so near and dear to my heart because when I was cooking professionally, I had my own “enough is enough” moment. I realized that I gained a lot of weight working in the kitchen and between that and the stress of my job, I frankly became a very negative and miserable person.
I didn’t like who I had become and knew that I had to make a change. I watched my father who had always struggled with his weight use a healthy and organic product system to lose 82 pounds in about six months. Knowing that he is a doctor who is dedicated to natural health made me realize that this was a healthy choice that I could make and at least give it a shot.
I committed to following this system for at least 90 days while I was still working in the kitchen every day.
I made the commitment that I wouldn’t cheat and that I was going to follow it and see what would happen because I was truly sick and tired of being sick and tired and still being in my early 20’s gave me a little more sense of urgency.
I didn’t want to feel the way I did for 20 more years and then die an early death and not have a positive impact on others during my time on this planet.
The 90 days that I committed to still haven’t ended and actually lead me to my ultimate purpose in life which is contributing value to others by presenting them with systemized solutions to positively impact their lifestyle.
To make a long story short – I ended up losing 70 pounds in six months, my energy went through the roof, and I started feeling how a 20-something-year-old is supposed to feel.
That all happened about five years ago, and I still feel as great now as I did back then. Even more important, I’ve kept the weight off and going to the gym went from something I would dread the thought of to being one of my absolute favorite things to do.
When all of this wonderful stuff happened I decided to leave the professional kitchen and begin helping others to discover what had been shared with me. I now help people deal with the same issues that I had using the same system I used.
Almost everyone thinks that you have to eat salads every day to eat healthy when in fact nothing is further from the truth. There are all kinds of delicious foods out there and delicious dishes you can make and enjoy that won’t sabotage your goals.
In closing, my point and recommendation to you for starting this New Year of 2015 is to DO SOMETHING! Make a commitment and stick to it for at least 90 days!
You will notice a difference in my recipes moving forward. I am going to focus on keeping them a bit cleaner for the most part. There may be special occasions where “cheating” happens, but that’s the same with life. Sometimes on special occasions a cheat day can actually be a good thing. Just don’t have too many cheat days in a row!
Make 2015 your best year yet!
