Austin Sova earned the rank of Eagle Scout recently. His project included tearing down and then reconstructing and painting a raised masonry platform at St. Mary Cemetery in Uniontown. A statue of Mother Mary was placed on the platform, and surrounded by a custom-made wrought-iron fence.

A local man recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout with a cemetery beautification project.

Austin Michael SovaÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ project included tearing down and then reconstructing and painting a raised masonry platform at St. Mary Cemetery in Uniontown. A statue of Mother Mary was placed on the platform, and Sova surrounded it by a custom-made wrought-iron fence.

Sova is a member of St. Mary Church Troop 620 in Uniontown, and a 2022 graduate of Laurel Highlands Senior High School. The 18-year-old is the son of Dan Sova of Gore, Va., and Jennifer Sova of Uniontown. He is the grandson of Nancy and Allen Hrabak of Connellsville.

The Eagle Scout rank is the highest honor in Boy Scouts.
