City of Uniontown plans Fall Cleanup

Uniontown’s Fall Cleanup Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers will meet across from Maple Garden Apartments on Gallatin Avenue at 8:45 a.m. Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Volunteers with pick-up trucks are needed and appreciated. County Hauling roll-offs will be located at the City of Uniontown Compost Site on Romeo Lane, and will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proof of city residence and ID are required. The Fayette County Recycling Convenience Center, 105 Romeo Lane, Uniontown, will also be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for both regular recycling and hard-to-recycle items. Items not accepted include paint, pesticides, household cleaners, batteries, chemicals and construction materials.

Car seat safety check

State police are holding a car seat safety check on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Morrell Volunteer Fire Company, 1232 University Drive, Dunbar. Technicians will check the installation and use of seats at no charge. Those who attend should bring the owner’s manual of the vehicle and car seat instruction booklet. Toastmasters meeting scheduled

The Laurel Highlands Toastmasters Club meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. at Carnegie Free Library, 299 S. Pittsburgh Street, Connellsville. The club, which teaches public speaking and leadership skills, is open to anyone who’d like to participate in-person or virtually. Food distributions scheduled

n Pleasant View Presbyterian Church, 533 Royal Road, Smock, on Saturday, Sept, 17 at 10 am.

n St. Vincent de-Paul-sponsored food back at St. Mary’s Social Hall, 118 Church St., Brownsville, from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Families must be registered with Fayette County Community Action Agency in order to receive food.

n First Christian Church, 512 Second St., Brownsville, on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Picnic held for National Recovery Month

There is Hope Ministries is holding a picnic at the Malden Christian Fellowship Church, 343 Old National Pike, Brownsville, on Saturday, Sept, 17 from 4 to 9 p.m. in recognition of National Recovery Month. The public is invited to this free family event for food, fun and fellowship. There is Hope Ministries is a group that meets together Monday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to go over the 12 steps of recovery using the Life Recovery Bible. Children’s Closet distributing free clothes

The Ladies of Charity, an organization, in the Roman Catholic Churches of Uniontown are sponsoring a Children’s Closet, every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Gilmore Street entrance of St. Mary Parish Center in Uniontown. Free clothing for girls and boys in sizes newborn to 5T, diapers, books and toys are available for any child in need. Masks are required during the event.

Virtual support groups for domestic violence

Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA, which serves Fayette, Greene and Washington counties, offers counseling and virtual support groups that participants can access at home.
