Seed to Supper program to be offered in Fayette County
Fayette County Penn State Extension Master Gardeners are offering the free Seed to Supper program for county residents.
Seed to Supper is a comprehensive beginning gardening program that provides novice and adult gardeners the tools and education they need to learn how to successfully grow a portion of their own food on a limited budget. It also educates the experienced gardener on some of the sciences of gardening.
Classes cover vegetable gardening fundamentals: soil preparation, garden planning, maintenance and harvesting. At completion of the class participants will be able to start a raised bed, in-ground vegetable garden, or container gardens. Participants commit to attending all classes in the series. The program is free with course books and other supplies provided to all participants at no charge. Each course includes six, two-hour long sessions held at the same time each week for six consecutive weeks.
The Fayette County Master Gardeners’ 2022 Seed to Supper Program won 1st Place for the David Gibby Search for Excellence Award for Community Service.
In person classes will be offered at the Uniontown Public Library starting Monday, April 24 and the Connellsville Carnegie Library starting Saturday, April 29. Deadline for registration is two days before the first class.
Applications are available at both libraries or online via the following link pennstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cOVOeLjdt4R2UnQ.
The Seed to Supper curriculum originated with the Oregon Food Bank and Oregon State University Extension Service Master Gardeners, and with permission, the Pennsylvania Penn State Master Gardeners have adapted the program to fit the needs of Pennsylvania gardeners.
