Soroptimist International Live Your Dream Award available in Fayette County
Women who are the primary earners for their families are invited to apply for Soroptimist International of Fayette County’s Live Your Dream Award.
The award offers women financial assistance to continue their education or receive training. In February 2023, the organization awarded $2,200 to five women, and will accept applications for this year’s awards through Nov. 15.
Jana Welsh, the SI Fayette County club award recipient in 2019, was honored at the local club, regional and national levels and used the funding to help her finish a degree in human services at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.
“I encourage women in our community to apply for the Live Your Dream Award,” said Welsh. “It made me believe in myself and gave me the courage to keep fighting for my dreams.”
Applications are available on the Soroptimist International of the Americas website, www.soroptimist.org. For additional information on the application process, email SI Fayette’s chairperson Linda Wakim at wakimlinda@gmail.com. Wakim is also available to do presentations about the award at local colleges or trade schools.
Those who receive the local award are potentially eligible for $5,000 in regional funding, and three finalists will ultimately receive $10,000 to help achieve their dreams.
The award can be used to help offset costs associated with efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training. This includes tuition, books, child care, or any other education-related expense.
Globally, the award provides over $2.8 million in cash awards to head-of-household women in need each year. Since the program’s inception in 1972, more than $35 million has helped tens of thousands of women achieve their dreams of a better life for themselves and their families.
