Total: $5,612

Goal: $10,000

As Christmas Eve approaches, so does the end of the Give-A-Christmas campaign.

Unfortunately, the fundraiser to support local units of the Salvation Army is still shy of its $10,000 goal.

Still, campaign mascot Sparkle the Christmas star was optimistic.

“Our generous community has always supported Give-A-Christmas, and I know they’ll come through for the Salvation Army this year,” Sparkle said.

The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ has been hosting the fundraiser for 40 years, raising in excess of $1 million. All of the contributions are given to local units of the Salvation Army where the money supports programs like the Kindness Kafe soup kitchen in Uniontown.

When the campaign kicked off last month, Christine Bell, employee-in-charge at the Salvation Army in Uniontown, said there has been a substantial increase in the number of people coming to the food pantry and the soup kitchen.

“In 2023, we were serving 25 to 30 families at our food pantry and (in October), we served 160 families,” Bell said.

Those types of programs are sorely needed to provide a helping hand.

“Please consider giving if you can. Even a small donation will make a difference,” said Sparkle.

The final total raised through Give-A-Christmas will be announced in the Christmas Eve edition of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ. Information about how to donate is below.
