Two Fayette County residents are accused of killing a 71-year-old man whose body was found bound and covered in blanket near railroad tracks in North Union Township.

Terry Newland, 58, and Alysha Riggans, 30, conspired to kill their roommate Ralph Brown for four days before BrownÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ body was found Sunday afternoon on Kerr Street, according to court paperwork.

The Fayette County CoronerÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ Office determined Brown suffered blunt force trauma to the head and face, as well as a cut to the neck area.

In interviews with police, Newland and Riggans both said BrownÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ death arose out of a dispute with Brown over money. Newland told police Riggans came up with the idea to kill Brown; Riggans said it was NewlandÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ idea, court paperwork alleged.

Both agreed Newland stabbed Brown with a knife when Brown came home around 8:30 p.m., police said, though Riggans reportedly told troopers she was in her bedroom, heard a commotion and came out to see Newland stab Brown in the neck. Newland told police he stabbed Brown, but said it was part of Riggans’ plot, court paperwork alleged.

Riggans told police she then saw Newland beat Brown with a table, and said he asked her to put a garbage bag around BrownÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ head, which she secured with a belt, according to the complaint.

They then moved BrownÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ body to the basement, where it sat for several days until they moved it to the Kerr Street site, court paperwork said.

Riggans also admitted to stealing BrownÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ debit card, then making $660 of cash withdrawals and charges, the complaint said.

Newland and Riggans both face charges of criminal homicide, abuse of corpse and tampering with physical evidence. Riggans is also charged with theft and accessing a device used to obtain service.

Both were arraigned early Monday morning and sent to the Fayette County jail without bond.

Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for April 20.
