Country music superstar Kenny Rogers, announced on his website that he is going to retire, but not before he embarks on his “farewell tour,” “The GamblerĢƵ Last Deal” Christmas and hits with special guest Linda Davis that will make a stop at The Palace Theatre in Greensburg on Dec. 14.
“I have had an incredible career and more than I have ever dreamed, and thanks to you guys who supported me all these years. I wanted you to hear it from me. Not many people get to see the end of the rainbow,” said Rogers in a special video on his website, kennyrogers.rtouring.com. “I think I have had the beauty of this career, and the beauty of getting to know you guys daily out on the road and watching you kids grow up with me.”
Rogers, a Country Music Hall of Fame member, has had a music career that has spanned nearly six decades and has a catalog of popular hits including “She Believes in Me,” “We’ve Got Tonight,” “Through the Years,” “Lady” and more.
According to KennyRogers.com, The Gambler released his first Christmas album, “Once Again ItĢƵ Christmas,” in January 2015. This marked his first Christmas studio album in 17 years.
The concert will feature many of the songs on this album as well as some of his other popular hits.
“‘The GamblerĢƵ Last Deal’ concerts feature an all-new show, including a reflective look back through RogerĢƵ storied 50-plus-year career. Enhanced with personal stories, vintage photos and video clips-including never-before-seen footage-the music filled retrospective will touch on every part of Rogers’ career. Along with his long list of hits, Rogers is singing songs in concert that he hasn’t performed in years. The show is produced by veteran producer Kelly Junkermann,” reads information on RogerĢƵ website.
The Christmas and hits tour will conclude Dec. 23 and Rogers will take a break until July 22 when he launches into his “The GamblerĢƵ Last Deal” final world tour.
After many decades of performing and recording music Rogers has had the opportunity to reflect on his journey.
Gary Graff of Billboard quoted Rogers as saying, “I’ve hopefully gotten more professional, and I’ve constantly tried to have something unique to offer people when I come into their town in the way of production or vocals or music I’ve chosen. And I think what has really served me well is the live performance is usually better than the recorded performance…It feels like a long, long time ago ’cause so much has happened in the meantime.
“If you’re busy doing a lot of different things, then your year goes by pretty quickly. And thereĢƵ been so man(y) years, I guess it seems like a long time.”
Rogers will take to The Palace Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $75, $85, $95, $105, $125 and $150.
