Last Man Standing: “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” coming to The State Theatre
Barney Cashman will have his hands full as he tries to juggle romance with three different women in Neil SimonĢƵ “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” 3 p.m. March 5 at The State Theatre Center for the Arts in downtown Uniontown.
“ItĢƵ a great role. I am thrilled I get to play it,” said Fran Prisco who will take on the role of Cashman in Walnut Street TheatreĢƵ production that is coming to The State Theatre.
It is the 1960s and the concept of “free love” is abound and middle-aged, married man, Cashman wants in on some of the action before the parade passes him by.
In order to sow his wild oats he sets his sights on three different women.
According to a release from Walnut Street Theatre, “His targets; a bawdy bundle of fun who likes smooth whiskey and other womenĢƵ husbands, a young actress too kooky for words and a neurotic housewife who happens to be married to his best friend.”
In this production, joining Prisco is Karen Peakes who will take on all three womenĢƵ roles.
“Usually the play is done with three different actresses, and we are going it with one. It is just great fun to play with her in all three different roles,” said Prisco. “It makes you happy to go to work every night. She is very talented.”
Being in a cast of just two, according to Prisco, is a lot different that acting with a larger ensemble.
“There is a lot more stress. There is a lot more pressure. It is a lot of words for just the two of us,” said Prisco. “It took us a while to get there so it is very stressful. If they aren’t looking at her they are looking at you.”
When the audience attends the performance at The State Theatre, he hopes that they are able to share some laughs.
“The main thing you are hoping for is that you want to hear them laugh. That is when you know you are doing all right when you are up there. People are really enjoying it,” he said. “People say you know you need to laugh right now and it is a true joy helping to make that happen.”
Tickets to “Last of The Red Hot Lovers” are $25, $32 and $36 and can be purchased online at statetheatre.info or by calling the box office at 724-439-1360 or 800-397-2554.
