On her last release, soft rock ruled Diana KrallĢƵ “Wallflower.”

For “Turn Up the Quiet,” the five-time Grammy winner returns to the lush mood featured on 2006ĢƵ “From This Moment On” with classics carefully plucked from the Great American Songbook.

The 52-year-old Canadian jazz pianist and singer is at the top of her game as she shines on romantic tracks “Like Someone in Love,” “Isn’t It Romantic” and “L-O-V-E,” and KrallĢƵ cover of “Night and Day” is truly sultry and dreamy.

The talented singerĢƵ style is perfect for creating an intimate mood for a quiet dinner for two or a casual gathering of a few close friends.

Rotating recording performances between a trio, quartet and quintet, the arrangements possess a sense of improvisation that evokes a live vibe throughout the set.

“Moonglow” and “Sway” make for a late-night listening must, while “Blue Skies” and “I’ll See You in My Dreams” add a little bounce to the set.

“No Moon at All” features some great bass work that you can lose yourself in as KrallĢƵ spirited piano playing ushers in her breathy vocals.

Krall transforms Johnny MercerĢƵ “Dream” into a smooth gem with its subtle orchestration establishing a lavish base for KrallĢƵ calming vocals that reassure that things are never as bad as they seem.

After Krall married Elvis Costello in 2003, I’m still anxiously awaiting a collaboration by these two wonderful artists. For now, fans can delight in seeing Costello perform in Pittsburgh at Heinz Hall on June 13 and catch Krall at the Benedum Center on June 27.

Next time you feel the pressures of the day starting to build, take some time to escape to your patio, back porch, comfortable easy chair or special secluded place and lose yourself in the welcoming oasis created by Krall.

The quiet has never sounded so good.
