Uniontown Chorale to perform during the holiday season

For almost 45 years, the Greater Uniontown Chorale has entertained throughout Fayette County, and over the last few months, they have been preparing for their holiday concert that will offer up a mix of traditional and non-traditional pieces

Opening at 3 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 79 W. Fayette Street, in Uniontown, the group will offer up “The Glory of Christmas: Celebrating Christ’s Birth.”

Director Nancy Kalasky has been leading the group for the past year and said it can be a little challenging picking the different programs they do each year, but ultimately decided on one this year that offers familiar favorites and some that are lesser known.

“I listened to a bunch of different compositions, and I picked one that appealed to me,” she said. “There are some pieces such as ‘Still, Still, Still’ that aren’t real popular and then there are the traditional songs like ‘Oh Come All Ye Faithful’ and ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing.'”

Kalasky added that the tempos of the songs vary as well, with some being a little faster and upbeat and others being slow.

“There are some really beautiful harmonies in this program,” she said.

For the first time in several years, there will be an eight-member children’s choir joining the performances.

“In some of the music selections I chose there was the option to have a children’s choir or just ‘select voices,'” Kalasky said. “I chose to do a children’s choir because I thought it would be a nice touch.”

The children’s choir will join the adults on a couple of songs and then they will sing a selection by themselves.

Along with Trinity United Presbyterian, the group will perform at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Phillip G. Cochran Memorial United Methodist Church, 209 Grissom St., Dawson., at 3 p.m. Dec 15 at Abundant Life Church, 1239 Brownfield Rd., Uniontown and 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at Newell United Methodist Church, 204 Miller St., in Newell.

There is no charge to attend the concerts, but a free-will offering will be taken.
