The State Theatre Center for the Arts in Uniontown is shown. COVID-19 concerns forced the cancellation of one of this year's shows, but the second, hopefully, will be presented in the fall.

“The Golden Girls Show! A Puppet Parody” will take the State Theatre stage at 7 p.m. Oct. 13.

From musicals to art to even live animals, the 2019-20 season at the State Theatre Center for the Arts in Uniontown will offer a mix of entertainment.

“We’re really excited about this season,” said Erica Miller, executive director at the theater.

The fun will kick off with a group of puppets portraying the original ‘friends’ — the popular Golden Girls — with “The Golden Girls Show! A Puppet Parody.”

“It just seemed like such a funny idea,” said Miller. “The show is incredibly entertaining, and it was beloved by so many generations of people. ItĢƵ really broad reaching.”

The show is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 13. Tickets are $25, $30 and $35.

The Broadway musical “Xanadu” will take the stage at 8 p.m. Oct. 26.

“The musical is based on the movie, which is hilariously funny, and it actually pokes a little bit of fun at the movie,” said Miller.

An interesting part of the performance is that two of the cast members will be played by Ginger Minj and Jinkx Monsoon from “Ru PaulĢƵ Drag Race.”

Tickets for the show are $25, $36 and $40. These will be the only two shows in 2019 for the new season. The shows will pick up again in January with another musical on Jan. 25, when “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” takes the stage.

Based on the infamous comic strip “The Peanuts,” she said they were hoping to reach a broad audience when they chose this show for the new season.

“ThereĢƵ a lot of people who grew up with Charlie Brown and the gang,” Miller said. “Also, this is an anniversary year for the cartoon.”

The show is scheduled for 7 p.m. and tickets are $25, $36 and $40.

A few months later, on March 21, the State Theatre will present “Artrageous,” a show thatĢƵ a mixture of art, music and creation lab.

“We presented ‘Artrageous’ in the past, and it was very well received,” Miller said. “They have a new tour now with new paintings and new music, and we thought it would be fun to bring them back.

“Hopefully everyone who came out and enjoyed it the first time will come back and bring their family and friends with them,” she added.

The show is scheduled for 8 p.m. and tickets are $25, $30 and $35.

A special treat just a couple weeks later, on April 3, will be Jack Hanna from The Columbus Zoo, with a number of his animal friends for the show “Jack HannaĢƵ Into the Wild LIVE.”

“We had ‘Mutts Gone Nuts’ this past season, and it was incredibly popular, so we thought we’d bring back another show with animals,” said Miller. “Jack Hanna is so well known. HeĢƵ been on Johnny Carson and David Letterman and The Today Show and has represented The Columbus Zoo for so many years.

“He’ll be bringing various kinds of animals,” she added. “We just felt there would be a strong appeal for people to come to this.”

The show is scheduled for 7 p.m. and tickets are $25, $36 or $40.

Finally, the State Theatre is bringing an entertaining concert performance to the stage with “Neil BergĢƵ 50 Years of Rock N’ Roll” on April 17.

Miller said there will be five singers as part of the group who have either Broadway or rock-and-roll credentials.

“They’ll go through all of the different genres of music, and I think itĢƵ going to be a really fun night,” she said.

The show is scheduled for 8 p.m. Tickets are $25, $30 and $35.

Although itĢƵ not part of the theaterĢƵ entertainment schedule, the next event to take the stage at the venue will be a tribute concert to Journey, Foreigner and Styx by Trilogy Classics Live — a group of five journeymen musicians — 7:30 p.m. Sept. 28. Tickets are $25.

Tickets for every show at the theater can be purchased online at http://www.statetheatre.info or by calling the box office at 724-439-1360.

“We encourage everyone to buy a ticket and come out to the State to enjoy a show this upcoming season,” said Miller.
