Blame for school district troubles should be passed around

2 min read

Recent regional newspapers report yet another in a long series of tormenting issues that frustrate the confidence and enthusiasm of public school students enrolled in Southeastern Greene School District. Two of the longstanding issues are the chronically distressed local economy and ineptitude of responsible agents and officials to effectively manage issues.

Of the five school districts in the county, Southeastern suffers most. Low morale is glaringly obvious by the dwindling student participation in sports teams and the band. A new low has been reached by a shamefully small number of students planning to attend the prom this year.

?One school board member reportedly blames student apathy. Another member faults the students for not raising enough money to fund the prom. (What distressed economy? Where?)

To believe those school board members would mean the problems lie with the students or “kids,” as some chose to call them. No blame goes to the ad hoc committee that some years ago forced the recall of sitting board members and succeeded in squelching plans for a new school building.

No blames goes to school administrators and board members who cannot or will not manage the merger of school districts. No blame goes to local government officials who either will not or do not know how to improve our disgraceful economy that is depriving our public school students of a a world class education.

It is illegal to deny a child, or minor, proper food and medical care. It is illegal to physically or in any way abuse a child or minor. So why in heaven’s name is it perfectly alright to deny our children or minors a proper education equal or superior to that of their counterparts around the world?

That seemingly not to be bad enough the “kids” are accused of bringing the predicament upon themselves!

There is obviously nobody representing the best interests of the students in this matter. So, on their behalf, I feel compelled to say: Raspberries! A pox on the house of all responsible administrators, board members and elected public servants.
