Commissioners should solve Marcellus Gas issue
The Greene County Commissioners should solve the issue of the Marcellus gas development now. The longer we wait is costing potential millions of dollars in lost taxes.
The county should pass a law that no well is drilled until they get a permit from the assessment office showing that they have met all of the state and local requirements.
The permit should cost $1,000.
The township where the well is drilled [should] receive $200 and the town where it is drilled should receive $300. The balance of $500 will be kept by the county to pay for the cost of keeping in compliance as well as the rate of the gas flow.
This rate of gas flow will be a major tax source.
