A.C. Headlee had a strong start to the 2014-15 wrestling season and even stronger finish with WPIAL and PIAA individual titles.

The Waynesburg Central senior, named the Outstanding Wrestler last weekend in the state finals, has one more big high school bout remaining Sunday when he takes part in the prestigious 41st annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic at the University of PittsburghĢƵ Fitzgerald Field House.

Headlee is one of 13 wrestlers (eight from the WPIAL) on the Pennsylvania All-Star squad that faces the USA team beginning at 6 p.m.

Jefferson-MorganĢƵ Brendan Howard will also wrestle once more in his schoolĢƵ colors as a member of the WPIAL All-Stars, who face the Illinois All-Stars in the preliminary at 4 p.m.

Headlee, ranked fifth at 132 pounds in the country by InterMat as of March 4, wrestles the sixth-ranked Jared Prince. Headlee has a career record of 167-16, while Prince, from Palm Harbor University, Fla., sports a record of 251-4 with three Florida state championships.

Headlee will attend North Carolina, while Prince will wrestle for the United States Naval Academy.

The USA squad sports an overall record of 2,333-62 with 41 state titles. Nick Piccinninni (126, Ward Melville, N.Y.), Max Thomsen (145, Union, Iowa), Fox Baldwin (170, Osceola, Fla.), Lance Benick (195, Totino Grace, Minn.), and Austin Myers (220, Campbell County, Ky.) are all four-time state champions.

The Pennsylvania All-Stars have an overall record of 1,967-231 with 17 state championships, including three from Franklin RegionalĢƵ 113-pounder Devin Brown.

HempfieldĢƵ Sam Krivus (138), Franklin RegionalĢƵ Michael Kemerer (145) and Josh Shields (160), Central CatholicĢƵ Vincenzo Joseph (152), Penn Hills’ Te’Shan Campbell (170), and BurrellĢƵ Alan Beattie (285) are the remaining WPIAL wrestlers on the Pennsylvania squad.

Beattie defeated SouthmorelandĢƵ Jacob Beistel last Saturday for the PIAA Class AA title at 285 pounds.

The Pennsylvania All-Stars are coached by BurrellĢƵ Josh Shields and Franklin RegionalĢƵ Eric Mausser.

Howard finished seventh at 120 pounds in the state Class AA tournament last weekend. The Jefferson-Morgan senior wrestles 15th-ranked Michael Cullen, of Cary Grove, Ill.

Kenney, who fell in the consolation round in the state Class AAA tournament, follows at 126 pounds. The Connellsville senior wrestles 17th-ranked Kris Williams, of Thornwood, Ill.

The other members of the WPIAL All-Stars are Austin McDermitt (113, Burgettstown), Josh Ridgeway (132, Norwin), Dom Giannangelli (138, Franklin Regional), Josh Maruca (145, Franklin Regional), Paul Dunn (152, Bethel Park), Jared Walker (160, South Fayette), Brooks Wilding (170, Upper St. Clair), Josh Bahr (182, West Allegheny), Zach Smith (195, North Allegheny), Fred Mantsch (220, Hempfield), and Tyler Mears (285, Latrobe).
