Kudos to those who helped make Empty Bowls a success

2 min read

Kudos to Waynesburg University Bonner Scholar Sydney Green and her team of students, faculty, family and community members who planned and executed the Empty Bowls Greene County event this past Sunday, April 3, to raise money for the Greene County Weekend Food (Backpack) Program.

Sydney and her team pulled together a great afternoon with soups, breads and desserts provided by a number of local chefs and restaurants.

Of course, there was a wonderful selection of ceramic bowls handcrafted by students, faculty and staff of Waynesburg University, Jennifer Adamson, Winegar Pottery, and other local artists for each attendee to take home.

These students brought together the university, members of the Greene County community and so many others to help end hunger for children by raising funds for the Weekend Food (Backpack) Program. All of the funds raised through the tickets for the event and the auctions will be distributed by the Community Foundation of Greene County to each of the five school districts in the county to purchase food as part of the packs for the weekends when some children and their families may need additional help with food needs.

The Empty Bowls event didn’t happen overnight. All of this planning and hard work was completed by the students during the past six or seven months. This was in addition to their classroom studies, service learning commitments, sports, and social activities. What a wonderful group of caring young adults! They are true embodiment of Waynesburg University’s emphasis of service. Kudos to Waynesburg University President Doug Lee, Bonner Scholar Program Coordinator Adrienne Tharp and all the university leaders for encouraging the students to become involved in the community.

Many, many thanks to Sydney and her team of volunteers for their hard work in putting this event together. Special thanks also go out to McCracken Pharmacy and The Baily Agency for their generous sponsorships for the event. Most of all, thank you to everyone who bought tickets and made donations to help make this event so successful. Your support makes a difference in the life of child, and in the life of our community!
