Rohanna misses the cut in Hawaii

Despite finishing with an under-par round Friday, Rachel Rohanna was unable to rebound from a poor first round and missed the cut at the Lotte Championship presented by Hershey’s in Oahu, Hawaii.

The Waynesburg Central graduate shot 1-under 71 in the second round, but opened with a 7-over 79 Thursday to miss the cut.

Rohanna closed the back nine in the second round with three birdies for a 3-under 33. Unfortunately, she had three bogeys and a birdie on the front to go out in 2-over 38.

Thursday’s opening round was a tale of two nines with Rohanna shooting a 2-over on her front nine (the back) and 5-over 41 on her final nine holes. She played the front nine in 7-over and the back nine 1-over.

“The middle 18 holes killed me,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “It was just windy, and then a couple unlucky breaks/bad shots and it just added up. (The wind) was affecting my irons and drives.

“I mean, I didn’t feel like I hit the ball that great. But, I know I still hit it better than probably 70 percent of the field, and putted real well too, just got unlucky at bad times.”

The LPGA Tour moves to San Francisco next week, and Rohanna is hoping her final nine holes carry over.

“Well, at least I can go into next week walking off a 33 for my last 9, so that’s a positive!,” said Rohanna emphatically.
