Rohanna slips down the leaderboard
Robert Rohanna managed to keep his sense of humor Saturday despite slipping down the leaderboard with a 3-over 74 in the third round of the 85th Abierto OSDE del Centro Only presentado por FiberCorp.
The Waynesburg Central graduate played 17 holes in even par, but the 18th hole, No. 13, a par-4, was a triple bogey.
“Only in baseball,” Rohanna dryly replied via Facebook Messenger when asked about the usefulness of a triple.
After making a move up the leaderboard with an even-par 71 in the second round, Rohanna lost the ground he gained and is tied for 53rd place heading into today’s final round at the Cordoba Golf Club in Cordoba, Argentina. He has a three-round total of 5-over 218.
Jeff Karlsson and Anthony Paolucci share the lead heading into the fourth round at 7-under 206.
Rohanna explained the events that led to the triple bogey-7.
“Well, I hit it under a tree about five yards off the fairway right. I punched it back into the fairway about 100 yards. Then, I tried to hit a low shot to the back pin and semi-shanked it into the trees. I had to take an unplayable. Then, I hit it on the green and two-putted for a 7,” said Rohanna.
Rohanna had a par round going through the first 12 holes, carding two birdies and two bogeys on the front for an even-par 35. He made the turn with three straight pars.
He closed the back nine with a birdie, bogey and three pars to play the back in 3-over 39.
Except for the one wayward hole, Rohanna was satisfied with the way he played.
“I’m playing smart and still messing up. I played really good again today, honestly,” said Rohanna. “I had three 3-putts through 12 holes, two for bogey and one for par. Two of them I hit pin-high and it was wet, the ball spins back to the front of the green, and one landed in the back tier to spin back and it stayed there! I just couldn’t guess right.
“I’ve never felt as good about my game and scored pretty poor. It’s rough.”
Rohanna is looking for a strong finish, despite the troubles he’s had on the course.
“This isn’t a course that favors my game, per se. It’s super tight and driver doesn’t really help much. I’m playing pretty good besides three shots all week and they weren’t my driver’s fault,” said Rohanna. “I’m (upset), but not that bad because I’m actually playing pretty good, so maybe i can get it done tomorrow.”
