Robert Rohanna put together a solid round of golf Tuesday afternoon, moving atop the leaderboard after finishing with a 7-under 65 in the second round of the Pennsylvania Open at The Club at Nevillewood.

The Waynesburg Central graduate has a two-round total of 8-under 136 and holds a one-stroke lead over Corey McAlarney and two-stroke advantage over Luke M. Miller and Devin Gee.

FarmingtonĢƵ Mason Fordyce had another tough day in his first state championship as the Uniontown graduate shot 85 in the second round to miss the cut with a two-day total of 22-over 166.

The putts that weren’t rolling into the cup in MondayĢƵ first round were in the second round as Rohanna finished with one eagle on the front nine and five birdies over the final nine holes to move into the top spot of the leaderboard.

“It was pretty good. I actually hit a little closer yesterday, but I couldn’t get (the putts) to go in,” said Rohanna.

Rohanna was breezing along in the second round after opening with six consecutive pars. His round turned for the good when he carded an eagle on No. 7, a 530-yard par-5.

“I was plugging along. I was hitting okay,” said Rohanna of his start. “I hit a really good drive on No. 7. I hit a real good 6-iron to 15 feet and made it. That got my round going.”

Rohanna had pars on the next three holes.

“I hit three really good tee-to-green shots,” Rohanna said of the string of pars.

Rohanna went to 3-under for the round with a birdie on No. 11.

“I had a really good par on No. 13. ItĢƵ a real long par-3. It played 230 (yards) into the wind. It was the first green I missed all day. I chipped to four feet and made (the par putt),” said Rohanna. “That was a momentum putt. I kept it going.”

He followed the par with back-to-back birdies to go to 5-under for the round and 6-under in the tournament.

“I made a 4-footer on No. 16 for par. That helped,” said Rohanna.

Rohanna closed strong with birdies on the final two holes.

“I played No. 18 so well. I had a 6-foot birdie putt,” said Rohanna. “It was a fun back nine, for sure.”

Rohanna has an eagle, eight birdies, 25 pars and two bogeys in the first two rounds. HeĢƵ played the par-4s in 5-under, par-5s in 3-under and par-3s in even par.

Rohanna is in the final pairing at 9:50 a.m. with Corey McAlarney and OakmontĢƵ Devin Gee. Gee rallied from two strokes down with two holes to play to win the West Penn Open as Rohanna settled for third place.

Rohanna believes his play in the first 36 holes sets him up for the solid final round.

“I’m pretty confident on how I’m playing,” said Rohanna.

First-round leader Cole Willcox shot a 73 in the second round and is tied with six other golfers at 140.

Fordyce was hoping he’d rebound in the second round after opening with an 9-over 81. He played the front nine in 2-over 38 with a birdie on No. 3 and a double bogey on No. 7, but things slid away from him on the back nine with three double bogeys and five bogeys.
