Rohanna shoots 1-under in third round

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Rachel Rohanna finally put together a sub-par round in the LPGA and Symetra Tour Q School, finishing with a 1-under 71 Friday in the third round on the LPGA International Jones course.

The Waynesburg Central graduate still has a lot of ground to make up in today’s fourth round to advance to Sunday’s fifth and final round. The top 75 (and ties) qualify for the final round, with the current cut at 3-over. Rohanna is tied in 116th place at 7-over 223.

Nasa Hataoka is the leader after the third round at 14-under 202. She holds a one stroke lead over Jaye Marie Green.

Rohanna managed to stay away from the big numbers that plagued her in the first two rounds with just two bogeys on her back nine. She had a pair of double bogeys in the first round and a triple bogey in the second round.

She had two birdies and seven pars on her opening nine on the back nine of the LPGA International Jones course. Rohanna had another birdie on her back nine to counter the two bogeys. One of the bogeys was the result of missing a short putt.

“I missed two 2-footers. One for par and one for birdie. I could’ve been 3-under,” said Rohanna. “One under is the highest I’d hit today.”

Rohanna was pleased her score somewhat reflected the way she felt she hit the ball, something that she didn’t do in the first two rounds.

“I played really better,” said Rohanna. “I’m hitting it so well. I’m trying to make good swings.

“I’ve only had one 3-putt this week. I’m actually putting pretty great. They’re just not rolling in.”

Rohanna has some ground to make up for a spot in Sunday’s final round, but said she won’t get caught up in looking at the scoreboard.

“I need to just focus on my own game plan. That depends on the weather. It’s windy down here, scores are extremely high. But, I’m a pretty good wind player,” said Rohanna. “I need to be trusting my (putting) line and make a couple putts. If I do, I shoot 4- or 5-under, which I can do.”
