Rohanna misses cut in Australia
Rachel Rohanna’s driver went asunder in the Land Down Under Friday, as the Waynesburg Central graduate shot 7-over 79 in the second round to miss the cut at 8-over 152.
Rohanna entered the second round of the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open right at the cut line of 1-over, but scrambled out of the gate as she opened the second round on the back nine.
She had three bogeys in her first five holes, but settled down to finish her front nine at 3-over 39.
The back nine remained problematic with a bogey on No. 2, her 11th hole, then double bogeys on her 15th and 17th holes. Rohanna closed the second round with a birdie to come back in 4-over 40.
“It wasn’t good, all around. My driver probably cost me eight shots this week, I just couldn’t hit a fairway and give myself any opportunities at birdies,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “My putting was great, but I couldn’t hit anything close enough for birdie looks. I also had a lost ball today (Friday), which was almost impossible to do on this course!
“But as long as I get my driver straightened out, I will start scoring like I should.”
Rohanna hit only 6-of-14 fairways and 10-of-18 greens in regulation. She had three sand saves in seven opportunities, and needed 31 putts to close her round.
The LPGA Tour remains in southeast Asia, but Rohanna won’t be continuing on.
“I’m heading home Monday for a week, then heading to Florida to practice until March 9. Nathan Smith and I are talking to some junior golfers at Oakmont on the 9th. The WPGA put it together, so it should be good and fun. They do alot of local golf and, especially juniors, so hopefully the kids will be able to take something away from it!,” said Rohanna.
Rohanna then heads to Phoenix in mid-March in preparation for the LPGA Tour stop in Hawaii.
