Rohanna closes with 76 in Marathon Classic

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Rachel Rohanna wasn’t able to follow up on her play in the third round Sunday, finishing with a 5-over 76 in the final round of the Marathon Classic presented by Owens Corning and O-I.

The Waynesburg Central graduate finished in a three-way tie in 61st place with a four-day total of 4-over 288.

After nine birdies in the first three rounds, including three in her final six holes in Saturday’s third round, Rohanna mustered just one birdie in the final round and she needed 17 holes to do so.

“There was just one birdie between me and my playing partner (Sakura Yokomine) and we needed 34 holes (between them) to get it,” said Rohanna.

Rohanna opened the final round with a bogey-bogey start and added a third bogey on No. 7 to go out in 3-over 37.

She made the turn with another bogey-bogey start, with her third bogey on the back coming on No. 15.

Rohanna hit 6-of-14 fairways and only 8-of-18 greens in regulation, the third time in three rounds she did so.

She needed 31 putts to close out her round, after totals of 24, 28 and 28 in the first three days.

“I had some really bad lies and couldn’t hit very good second shots,” explained Rohanna. “There was nothing in particular. I didn’t make any putts today.

“I was not hitting that close. I only hit eight greens today. I was misjudging and mishitting things.”

Rohanna was looking for a better finish after making her first cut since the first weekend of May, but was glad to be playing golf on the weekend.

“I was able to get some good rounds under my belt,” said Rohanna.

Rohanna has four weeks off now with the Women’s British Open in two weeks and time off for the Olympic Games.

“I have four weeks off. I might play a Symetra Tour event or two,” said Rohanna. “I’m not sure what I’m going to do.

“I want to get our house done. That’s a priority for the next two weeks.”

Rohanna is next scheduled to play in the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open in Calgary, Alberta, on August 25-28. The LPGA Tour remains in Canada for the next week for the Manulife LPGA Classic.
