Rohanna falters in second round, misses cut
Rachel Rohanna admitted she’s a streaky golfer, and right now she’s streaking in the wrong direction.
The Waynesburg Central graduate shot 8-over 79 in Saturday’s second round of the Shoprite LPGA Classic presented by Acer to miss the cut with an 11-over 153.
Karine Icher leads heading into today’s final round at 12-under 130.
“I know I am a streaky player. I always thought it was a good thing,” said Rohanna, adding, “The best is yet to come.”
Rohanna looks to right the ship and start a streak in the opposite direction this week when the LPGA Tour moves across the country to Washington for the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
“We have a major next week and three good opportunities to get back into the top 80,” said Rohanna.
She opened on the back nine and started on the wrong foot with a bogey. Three pars followed before her second bogey, then the cycle repeated to go out in 3-over 37.
“On the first hole I had 100 (yards) in and bladed it over the green,” said Rohanna.
“I started out not too bad. I couldn’t make any putts and I didn’t hit it well,” explained Rohanna. “I made better strokes of the ball (than in Friday’s first round), but I didn’t make anything. The greens were really bumpy.
“I didn’t hit the ball close enough for good birdies or tap-in putts.”
Rohanna carded her lone birdie on No. 1, but gave the stroke right back on the next hole. After consecutive pars, Rohanna followed with three bogeys and a double bogey. She played her back nine in 5-over 42.
“I had no 3-putts until my 14th and 15th holes on the back,” said Rohanna.
Rohanna hit just 6-of-14 fairways and, as she did in the first round, 9-of-18 greens in regulation. She needed 33 putts to complete her round after using 30 in the first round.
Rohanna said she doesn’t need to overhaul things, just a tweak here and there.
“The one thing is actually the opposite of what I wanted to do at the beginning of the season,” said Rohanna. “It doesn’t look like my swing. It’s not a hard fix. Every hole was something different.
“I never have major swing adjustments. I just tweak a little. It’s just a matter of figuring out what it is.”
