Rohanna shoots another 76, misses cut

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Rachel Rohanna had too many over-par holes and not enough birdies Saturday in the second round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G, missing the cut with another 5-over 76.

The cut was at 3-under.

The Waynesburg Central graduate opened on No. 10 and had a bogey, triple bogey and two birdies, her only two in the second round, on her front nine for a 2-over 37.

“On the triple (bogey), I was underneath a tree and had to punch out. My ball hit another girl’s ball on the green and went dead right into the water,” explained Rohanna.

Rohanna double bogeyed No. 12 in Friday’s first round when another punch shot hit a tree and ricocheted dead right into the water.

She had a bogey, double bogey and seven pars on her back nine to come back in 3-over 39.

Rohanna hit 8-of-13 fairways in the second round and 10-of-18 greens. She needed 30 putts after 34 putts in the first round.

Although she missed another cut, Rohanna believes she’s moving in the right direction.

“It was another rough day, but I feel like it’s close. I don’t feel like I’m going in the wrong direction,” said Rohanna. “I had the typical bad luck stuff.

“I had four 6s and a 7.”

Rohanna had just four birdies in the two rounds, saying, “Not that I’m giving myself opportunities. Had I had a lucky week, that’s the difference of putts falling in our falling out.”

Rohanna believes she can see her practice and work off the course starting to pay out.

“I hit it somewhat straight. I make a couple putts, I easily score 5-under. I think that my ball-striking is getting better and better each week. I need to get some putts to fall to score.”

Even members of the gallery watching her play believed she played better than her score indicated.

“My host family came to watch and told me ‘You look like you’re outplaying the other girls,'” said Rohanna, adding, “The game of golf is patience.”

Rohanna flies out Monday for the Cambria Portland Classic in Portland, Oregon.
