Rohanna advances to 3rd round of Panama Classic
Robert Rohanna was looking to repeat the play of his first round in the Lexus Panama Classic Friday afternoon, but he was unable to match his 3-under round.
Although the Waynesburg Central grad shot 2-over 74 in Friday’s second round at Buena Ventura Golf Club in Rio Hato, Panama, his two-round total of 1-under 143 was good enough to make it into the third round.
Rohanna is tied in 32nd place heading into the weekend rounds. Edward Figueroa and Tom Whitney share the lead at 6-under 138.
“I didn’t score very well today,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “It was pretty easy with not much wind. Strangely, I actually hit 16-of-18 greens. I just couldn’t get any putts to fall, but putted well. I drove it good again, just didn’t hit it close enough most of the time.”
Rohanna started on No. 10 and played his first nine holes in even par with a double bogey (on No. 10), back-to-back birdies (Nos. 11-12), another third birdie (No. 16), and a closing birdie (on No. 18).
He played his back nine holes in 2-over with a double bogey and eight pars.
Though a bit disappointed with his second round, Rohanna is playing in the weekend for the first time this season.
“Yes I am!” exclaimed Rohanna when asked about making the cut. “I didn’t have my best and still did ok today after the two bad holes. I’m playing well enough to shoot good scores. I was really close to a big comeback today, but I just didn’t have gravity on my side on the greens. It was lip-out central.”
