Rohanna has top-20 finish in Panama Classic

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Robert Rohanna was unable to ride the early momentum in his final round Sunday, but managed to keep things together for his third sub-par round and finish tied for 17th at the Lexus Panama Classic.

The Waynesburg Central graduate shot 1-under 71 at Buenaventura Golf Club for a four-day total of 4-under 284. He tied with fellow American Brian Richey in 17th place.

Another American, Derek Rende, won the tournament with a 12-under 276.

Rohanna was sailing right along at the start of the final round with birdies on Nos. 3, 5 and 6, to move to 6-under for the tournament.

“I was hitting it really good to start and had it to 3-under though six holes. It could have been 5-under with a few (putts) inside 10 feet I missed,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger.

His momentum was slowed with a bogey on No. 7. Rohanna parred out the front for a 2-under 34.

Rohanna’s fortunes continued to turn for the worse after he made the turn with a bogey on No. 12. He got the stroke back with a birdie on No. 15, but lost the shot with a bogey-6 on the next hole. Rohanna played the back in 1-over 37.

“I just didn’t hit it great on the back. I wish I putted better. I was feeling pretty good about it all week, too, until the weekend,” said Rohanna.

Rohanna was satisfied with his play for the week, but he did have a disappointment or two.

“The story of my week was the par-5s though, only played them 1-under for the week. I guarantee you everyone else played them better then me,” said Rohanna. “The greens were just not in my favor this week. I hit it well and I’m looking forward to playing again soon. The only bad thing is we don’t play until April 11 in Argentina.

“I had a lot more positives this week then negatives, so that’s how I will look at it.”

The tour takes a couple weeks off before returning on April 14 for the 85th Abierto OSDE del Centro presentado por FiberCorp at the Cordoba Golf Club in Cordoba, Argentina.
