Waynesburg sweeps DH from PS Fayette
The Yellow Jackets needed only 10 innings Tuesday afternoon as Waynesburg swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from visiting Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, 16-0 and 25-4.
Waynesburg scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning in the first game and never looked back as Stephanie Kotomski shut out the Lady Roaring Lions on four hits.
The Yellow Jackets added seven more runs in the bottom of the second. Only five of the first 13 runs scored were earned.
Kotomski went the distance for the win, striking out seven and walking none.Â
Alex Lawrence led Waynesburg with a home run, double, four RBI and two runs scored. Jessica Dorazio and Katey Potopenko both drove in two runs.
Shelby Dziak took the loss, allowing 13 runs (five earned) on five hits with no strikeouts and seven walks in two innings of action. Miranda Nichols doubled for the Lady Roaring Lions.
Waynesburg (8-12) scored 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning in the nightcap to breeze to another game called by the mercy rule.
Lyndi Gareis allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and now walks for the victory.
Cameron Grimes had a two-run double in the 6-run bottom of the fourth inning.
Mackenzie Smith finished with a double, two singles, three RBI and three runs scored for the Yellow Jackets. Dorazio went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored, while Gareis had a double, single, three RBI and two runs scored. Sabrina Stankus scored five runs and was on base four times with two singles and two walks.
Alyssa Strausser took the loss for the Lady Roaring Lions (0-6), allowing 16 runs (13 earned) on eight hits with nine walks and one strikeout in 2.1 innings pitched.
Kelsie Seman and Kelsey Rudzienski both had two singles for Penn State Fayette.Â

Saint Vincent 17, Waynesburg 7 — The Lady Bearcats scored all the goals they needed in the first half Tuesday afternoon for a ORLC home victory.
Saint Vincent (3-0, 3-6) led 10-3 at halftime, and then outscored the Yellow Jackets in the second half, 7-4.
Holly Bachman scored six goals for Waynesburg (0-2, 0-5). JoHanna Phillips made nine saves.
Hannah Carroll led Saint Vincent with six goals. Maggie Nelson netted five for the Lady Bearcats.
