Rohanna finishes strong, makes the cut in Honduras

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Robert Rohanna spent all day at the golf course Friday, but didn’t complete a full round as storms plagued the Honduras Open, eventually causing the second round to be suspended because of darkness.

The Waynesburg Central graduate had another early wake-up call Saturday morning and warmed up quickly to finish with two birdies in his final six holes to shoot 3-under 69 in the second round and make the cut at 4-under 140.

“It’s a grind,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger after finishing his second round. “Like I said, I was out there for 13 hours yesterday and played 16 holes.

“It’s been 4:30 a.m. wake-up calls for four days straight and may happen tomorrow (Sunday), too.”

Rohanna had one birdie and 11 pars in the 12 holes he completed in the second round. He came back Saturday with birdies on Nos. 13 and 17 to stand tied for 15th entering the third round.

Rohanna shot 1-under 71 in the first round before the marathon second round got underway.

“I played 15 holes and was at the golf course for 13 hours,” Rohanna said Friday after the tournament was once again suspended.

“I did not start well, but I played well the whole rest of the day. But, the greens were so bad!,” emphasized Rohanna. “I could not make a putt. It rained five inches from 6:30 a.m. to noon and they didn’t get a chance to cut them, apparently. So the people who played yesterday had nice greens and tomorrow they will again.”
