Rohanna continues to move up leaderboard

Robert Rohanna moved up the Casa de Campo Dominican Republic Open leaderboard once again in Friday’s third round, finishing with a 1-under 71 to move into a tie for sixth place.

The Waynesburg Central graduate has a three-round score of 5-under 211, and could be even better if he could avoid matching birdies and bogeys.

Rafael Echenique and Timothy O’Neal share the third-round lead at 9-under 207.

Rohanna carding five birdies on the Teeth of the Dog Case de Campo course in the third round, but also had four bogeys. He had four birdies in the first round and six more in the second, but also had two bogeys and four bogeys, respectively.

“The course is hard and it’s really hard to get it close. If you don’t hit it exactly where you need to, it goes all the way over the green since they are firm,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “It’s almost impossible to hold the greens out of the rough, so a little miss of the tee hurts your chances to get it within the 20 feet.”

His play through the first 54 holes has Rohanna upbeat looking to Saturday’s final round.

“Maybe go out there and shoot a 67 or 68 and see what happens,” said Rohanna, adding, “Maybe I can make more birdies and less bogeys.”
