Rohanna continues climb up leaderboard
Robert Rohanna had the round of golf Saturday he’d like to bottle and open up every week after he shot 6-under 65 to move up the 58th Abierto Mexicano de Golf leaderboard into fourth place.
The Waynesburg Central graduate stands at 12-under 201 (67-69-65) through three rounds. He trails co-leaders Sam Fidone and Wesley McClain by four strokes and is just one stroke from third place.
“I played pretty solid today, the putter got hot which really helped. I only had 25 putts, which is awesome,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “The putter is a great equalizer. I didn’t have my best stuff ball striking, but some good par saves throughout my round kept it going.”
Rohanna had his lone bogey of the round on No. 6, but countered the lost stroke with four birdies to go out in 3-under 32. He birdied No. 11 and then scored his first eagle of the tournament on No. 15, a par-5.
“I made one long putt on my 15th hole. It was about 20 feet for eagle,” said Rohanna. “I just made a lot of 5- or 6-footers that had some break to them for birdies and pars.”
Rohanna is looking forward to the final round, hoping to keep the momentum rolling for 18 more holes.
“I got myself in a position to make a run, so maybe I can hit it awesome tomorrow and putt the same way,” said Rohanna, adding, “Yeah, I’m not feeling bad! I haven’t made too many cuts in elevation and I’m playing well here, so it feels like if I keep it up I can shoot a low one.”
