Rohanna moves up the leaderboard
Robert Rohanna matched his first-round 3-under 69 in the Lexus Peru Open presented by the Diners Club with the same score in Friday’s second round to sit tied in 16th place at 6-under 138.
Guillermo Pereira leads going into the weekend at 10-under 134.
The last PGA Tour Latinoamerica event the Waynesburg Central graduate played was the San Luis Championship in Mexico in early September. Rohanna tied for the lead, but lost in the sudden-death playoff.
Rohanna had two birdies on the front to go with one bogey to go out in 1-under 35. He carded four birdies and two bogeys on the back for a 2-under 34.
“Yeah, it wasn’t too bad,” Rohanna said of his round via Facebook Messenger. “The course played hard this afternoon. The greens are really firm and the wind blows from like 11 on.
“I’m not actually hitting it that great, but I’m scoring well, which is nice. I have hit some really good shots, but definitely messed up plenty of easy ones.”
Rohanna took a break from the PGA Tour Latinoamerica, playing in the first stage of the Web.com Tour Q School at the Grasslands Golf & Country Club in Lakeland, Fla., on Oct. 4-6.
“I shot 7-under and 8-under was the line to get through,” said Rohanna.聽
Rohanna is pleased with his standing on the leaderboard as he looks to the final two rounds at Los Inkas Golf Club in Lima, Peru.
“That’s always a positive (being near the leaders). I like this place, I’ve always liked it. The greens are like the grainiest Bermuda you’ve ever seen. The downhill putts are like lightning and uphill is like Velcro. It’s pretty amazing,” said Rohanna. “I’ll just go out and try to make birdies now, and get closer to the leaders.”
