Rohanna waiting to see if he’ll make the cut

By Jim Downey jdowney@heraldstandard.Com 2 min read

Robert Rohanna is going to have a long day Saturday as he awaits word whether his two-round score of 2-over 144 is low enough to make the cut in the Colombia Classic.

A number of golfers need to finish their second rounds after play was suspended because of lightning. The projected cut is 2-over.

“I actually didn’t play too bad, but we haven’t got rain the last two days and they didn’t water the greens. They are so firm,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “Literally, if you land in the front of the green, it bounces towards the back and if you land in the middle, it has no chance of staying on the green. That’s how firm they are.”

Rohanna played the front nine of Club Campestre de Cali in Cali, Colombia, in 1-over 35 with one birdie and two bogeys. He played the back in even-par 36 with two birdies and two bogeys.

The Waynesburg Central graduate played the back nine in Thursday’s opening round in 2-over 37 with three bogeys and just on birdie. He turned around on the front nine with two birdies and one bogey to come back in 1-under 35.

Colombian Andres Echavarria holds the lead at 6-under 136.

Rohanna thinks his two-round score is good enough to get him through to the weekend rounds, although the rain and weather that caused the stoppage might be advantageous to those who need to finish the second round.

“Yeah, we have a storm going on right now,” said Rohanna. “I should make the cut, but who knows. The course is playing really hard, but for these guys playing in the morning should be a little easier.”

When asked what he needs to do to make a move up the leaderboard, Rohanna added with a laugh, “Make birdies.”
