Rohanna closes Sara Bay Classic with 72
Rachel Rohanna shot her best round of the tournament Sunday, even-par 72, to move up 22 spots on the leaderboard at the Sara Bay Classic.
The Waynesburg Central graduate finished tied for 33rd at 9-over 225.
Hannah Green survived the tough Sara Bay Country Club course to win the Symetra Tour tournament with a 2-under 214. Green was the only golfer to finish the three-day tournament under par.
Rohanna carded a birdie on No. 2, but had three bogeys over the next five holes to slide to 11-over for the tournament. She birdied No 9 to go out in 1-over 37.
Back-to-back birdies on Nos. 13-14 moved her to 8-under for the tournament, but she gave one of those strokes back with a bogey on No. 17.
After 33 putts in both the first two rounds, Rohanna shaved a couple strokes off for 31 in the final round.
“Yes, I played much better today. I got a few more chips up and down, and made some good putts,” said Rohanna. “I hit the ball closer and switched putters just to give myself a different look, and it helped.”
Rohanna hit 11-of-14 fairways and 13-of-18 greens in regulation in the final round.
The golf course wasn’t giving up strokes, as evidenced by the scores throughout the tournament. Only 14 golfers shot even-par or lower in the final round with the low score 2-under.
“Yes, it’s just so hard if you aren’t hitting it well,” explained Rohanna.聽
When Rohanna finished the second round Saturday, her chances of playing in Sunday’s round didn’t look very promising. But, the scores climbed and she slipped in right at the cut at 9-over.
“Yea, I’m feeling really good. I just need to pick a putter,” said Rohanna, adding, “No, I actually don’t go through putters like most people do. I’m in love with two right now, though, which is unusual.”
The Symetra Tour takes a couple weeks off, returning on May 11-14 with the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Classic in Greenwood, S.C.
