Rohanna finishes T-39 in Canada Pacific Open

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Hanging around Ottawa paid off for Rachel Rohanna because she made the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open as first alternate and turned the opportunity into a top-40 finish.

Rohanna tied for 39th place with a four-day total of 1-under 283 on The Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club. She moved up 13 places in the final round.

Sung Hyun Park finished first with a 13-under 271.

Rohanna played in the Monday qualifier, but finished tied for seventh at 1-over 73 with the low four scores earning a spot into the LPGA event.

The Waynesburg Central graduate stayed around, though, and received the call early Thursday morning.

“I got in (the tournament) at 8:30 Thursday morning when Inbee Park dropped out,” said Rohanna.

Rohanna had a strong start with a 2-under 69 with five birdies and two bogeys in Thursday’s first round.

The Ohio State graduate played her way into the weekend with an even-par 71 with four birdies and four bogeys Friday in the second round.

Rohanna gave ground Saturday, shooting a 2-over 73. She had five bogeys, including four straight in the front nine, and three birdies. Rohanna played the front in 3-over 39 and 1-under 34 on the back.

“I played really well the first day and ok in the the second, but I didn’t do great yesterday,” explained Rohanna. “I started off really rough yesterday. I was plus-4 through six holes, but I brought it back at the end.

“But, I shot 1-under today to finish at 1-under.”

Rohanna played the front nine in 1-under 35 with two birdies and a bogey in Sunday’s final round. She had birdies on Nos. 10 and 17 on the back, but lost the strokes with bogeys on Nos. 12 and 14.

Rohanna hit 34-of-52 fairways over the four rounds and 44-of-72 greens in regulation. She needed 116 putts over the four days, with all but the third round under 30.

“I felt like I could’ve been really low this week. I’m playing well, just lost a few yesterday,” said Rohanna. “My irons were a little off, and hit a few drives offline, but I was happy with my scrambling and putting. That definitely saved me.”

Rohanna has a quick stop in Greene County before heading west for the LPGA Tour’s Cambia Portland Classic Presented by JTBC in Portland, Oregon.
