Yellow Jackets split doubleheader
The Waynesburg baseball team dropped the first game of Monday’s doubleheader at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, but the Yellow Jackets gained a split with a win in the second game.
The Milwaukee School of Engineering won the opening game, 8-3, but Waynesburg came back in the nightcap with a 5-1 victory.
The Yellow Jackets held an early 2-0 lead in the first game on Jonathon Kletzli’s RBI ground out and an error. The Raiders took a 3-2 lead in the third, but Kletzli’s RBI single tied the tame in the bottom of the inning.
Milwaukee School of Engineering scored the go-ahead run in the fifth and four more in the top of the seventh.
Kletzli and Tyler Reis both had a pair of hits in the first game. Josh Hausler had a double and scored two runs.
The Yellow Jackets’ Jonny Kutchman was tough to hit in the second game, allowing four hits and a walk with three strikeouts over five innings. Jacob Meyer pitched the final two innings for the save.
Kletzli went 2-for-2 with a double, walk and RBI in the second game. Reis scored a pair of runs.
Nate Mori gave the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 lead with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning. Justin Buberl scored on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 3-1.
John Przbylinski brought home the final run with an RBI single in the top of the seventh.
The Yellow Jackets play Neumann today at 2:30 p.m.
