Waynesburg women defeat Thiel, 55-47

Thiel led 14-12 after the first quarter and 32-22 at halftime Saturday afternoon, but the Waynesburg women stormed back in the second half for a 55-47 come-from-behind victory in PAC action.

The Yellow Jackets (8-4, 12-7) cut their deficit to one, 40-39, at the end of the third quarter and continued the rally to take the fourth quarter, 16-7, and the conference win.

Katie Gehlman led Waynesburg with 16 points. Addy Knetzer and Monica Starre both scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Jess Vormelked led the Tomcats (1-11, 4-15) with 14 points. Danyelle Lucido scored 11 points and Taylor Duncan added 10.

The Thiel men salvaged a split of the conference doubleheader with a 74-58 victory over the Yellow Jackets.

The Tomcats (6-6, 10-7) led by two at halftime, 38-36, and held Waynesburg to just 22 points in the second half as the visitors pulled away for the win.

Jon Knab led Waynesburg (4-8, 6-13) with 18 points. Timmy Kaiser added 10.

Thiel had five players in double figures with Josh Lumbus leading the way with 18 points. Tyreik Burton (14), Nyric Gosley (12), Clandell Cetoute (10), and Alonzo Brown (10) also finished in double figures.
