Rohanna shoots 5-under in second round
Rachel Rohanna had a string of four straight birdies on the back nine Saturday afternoon, sparking a move up the leaderboard in the second round of the Tullymore Classic.
The Waynesburg Central graduate moved 11 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for fifth place — with about half the field still on the course — after finishing the second round with a 5-under 67.
“Nice,” Rohanna said after confirming she carded eight birdies. “I made some really good putts. I picked up some shots. My putting was on fire today.”
Rohanna had three birdies on the front nine of Tullymore Golf Club in Canadian Lakes, Michigan, and only one bogey to go out in 2-under 33.
She made the turn with a bogey, followed with a birdie and then gave the shot right back with a bogey on No. 12.
Then, the birdie run commenced with four in a row. Rohanna closed with consecutive pars to play the back nine in 3-under 34.
Rohanna shot 3-under 69 in Friday’s first round with five birdies and two bogeys.
She hit 15-of-18 greens in regulation and needed 27 putts, but missed half the fairways, landing safely in just 6-of-13.
“I need to straighten a couple drives out and some irons,” said Rohanna, adding, “I’d feel more comfortable if I was hitting from the fairway more often.
“It’s getting windy out here. It’s tough to judge. The rain keeps missing us somehow. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.”
Rohanna had a lot of good rolls on the greens.
“I’m seeing a lot of putts,” said Rohanna. “I made two long putts, but most of them are 10-, 15-footers.”
