Rohanna has rough opening round

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 1 min read

Rachel Rohanna’s driver was not on target and that led to a difficult time in the first round of the Marathon Classic presented by Owens Corning and O-I Thursday with a score of 6-over 77.

The Waynesburg Central graduate hit just 4-of-14 fairways.

“I just couldn’t the fairway. My driver was not my friend today,” said Rohanna.

The wayward tee shots led to seven bogeys and one double bogey. Rohanna had only three birdies.

“Well, everything got spoken to harshly today,” Rohanna said of the clubs in her bag, “but, if I’m honest, my irons weren’t the issue. It was so firm today and hitting out of the rough is almost impossible to hold the green.”

“Yes very (frustrating),” continued Rohanna. “It’s just nothing is working at all. This is one of my favorite course, too.”

Rohanna isn’t giving up on the tournament just yet, though.

“Yes,” Rohanna commented that she had another 18 holes to right her round. “I’m just playing too good not to be finishing high up.

“But, oh well, that’s golf!”
