Rohanna shoots 74 in first round

By For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Rachel Rohanna had a string of three consecutive bogeys on her front nine in the first round of the Firekeepers Casino Hotel Championship Friday afternoon and was unable to work her way back to even with a 2-over 74.

Rohanna is tied for 69th place, standing one stroke behind the anticipated cut line at 1-over. Celine Boutier leads after the first round with 6-under 66.

The Waynesburg Central graduate opened on the back nine and had bogeys on her third, fourth and fifth holes. She managed to get one stroke back with a birdie on her eighth hole to go out in 2-over 38. Rohanna had an eagle opportunity on No. 10, but finished with a par.

“I didn’t really hit the ball close enough, but I started the day out with a 3-putt on a par-5 for par and just couldn’t get them to fall after that,” said Rohanna.

Rohanna played her back nine in even-par 36 with a birdie, bogey and seven pars.

She found 7-of-14 fairways and hit 15-of-18 fairways in regulation, but needed 36 putts to close out the first round.

“Yeah, like I said, I was not really close on some of them, but still no reason to have three 3-putts! But, I’m feeling good enough to shoot a really low score tomorrow, so hopefully get myself on that leaderboard,” said Rohanna.

Rohanna goes off No. 1 in Saturday’s second round at 1:37 p.m.
