Charleroi wins suspended game, 3-2

By For The Greene County Messenger 1 min read

Charleroi and Waynesburg Central waited about a month to finish their Section 3-AAA suspended game, but the Cougars needed only one at-bat for a 3-2 victory.

The game was suspended after eight innings with the score 2-2.

Jesse Andrechak started the game-winning rally for the Cougars with a double. Gino Pelligrini was intentionally walked. A failed sacrifice bunt attempt followed for the first out.

Errict Tedrow brought home Andrechak with the winning run when his fly ball fell just outside the reach of the left fielder.

Emery Anden pitched out of a jam in the top of the ninth to earn the win. The lead-off batter walked, but was thrown out attempting to steal.

Consecutive singles put runners at first and second, and the pair moved up a base on a two-out wild pitch. An intentional walk loaded the bases, but Anden secured the final out with a strikeout.

Waynesburg Central finishes the season at 9-3 in the section and 12-4 overall. The Cougars improve to 7-5 and 11-6.
