Rohanna ‘shoots’ up the leaderboard
Rachel Rohanna shot a bogey-free round Friday in the second round of the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Classic and her 5-under 67 shot her up the leaderboard into a tie for third place.
The Waynesburg Central graduate sits at 6-under 138 heading into the weekend, three shots behind the leader at the halfway point, Canadian Anne-Catherine Tanguay.Â
Rohanna tees off No. 1 today at 11:48 a.m.
“I hit everything so well today. It was a very enjoyable day,” said Rohanna, who couldn’t remember the last time she had a bogey-free round. “I hit it so much better today. Yesterday, I had some good breaks. Today, I hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens.”
Rohanna’s play was contagious with her threesome shooting a combined 11-under in the second round.
“It was all-around solid. It wasn’t like people were watching, saying ‘Oh, she’s lighting it up.'” said Rohanna. “I felt really good. I’m confident with my game. I have good momentum going into tomorrow.”
Rohanna said she had only one problem hole.
“I had one hole I thought I’d bogey. I hit into a fairway bunker and punched onto the fairway. I had a 9-iron in and stuck it to six feet. I made the putt for par,” said Rohanna. “I was disappointed on No. 18. I could’ve made birdie.
“On my 17th hole, I almost made a hole-in-one. I had a tap-in for birdie.”
The Symetra Tour event in Greenwood, South Carolina, is a four-day event, instead of three days, with a $200,000 purse.
“I told myself this is a marathon, not a sprint. I just have to keep throwing shots out there,” said Rohanna. “There’s a lot of holes I can take advantage of.”
