Rohanna slips into fourth place
Rachel Rohanna faltered after she made the turn in Sunday’s final round of the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Classic with a bogey and double bogey, as the Waynesburg Central graduate settled into fourth place with at 8-under 280.
Celine Boutier and Paolo Moreno went to a playoff after finishing tied at 10-under 278 with Boutier winning the title and $30,000 after she won the first playoff hole. Moreno’s share of the purse was $19,363.
Anne-Catherine Tanguay finished alone in third at 279 to win $14,102.
Rohanna closed with a 2-over 74, her only round over par in the four-day tournament. She won $10,955 for fourth place and moved from 25th into 13th on the money list.
Rohanna had back-to-back birdies on Nos. 3-4 to improve to 12-under for the tournament.
“I think I was tied. I was feeling really good,” said Rohanna.
However, after carding just one bogey over in the second and third rounds, Rohanna lost a stroke with a bogey on No. 5 and another when she bogeyed No. 9.
“I pulled my drive (on No. 5) into the bushes. I had to take an unplayable. I should have punched it out into the fairway, but I punched it through the trees and made bogey,” said Rohanna, who two-putted for bogey on No. 9. “I was one off the lead (when she made the turn).”
The bad stretch continued after the turn with a bogey on No. 10 and a double bogey on No. 11 to slip back to 7-under for the tournament.
“I crushed a drive on No. 10. I had 225 (yards) to the front. I hit 7-wood and pulled it into the high grass. It landed eight feet from the pin and stopped 70 feet away. I 3-putted,” said Rohanna. “I hit a perfect tee shot on No. 11. My ball hits a limb and falls straight down. The other two girls hit the tree and it goes through. I end up taking a double.
“I told myself ‘let’s try to get to 9- or 10-under, try to finish strong.'”
Rohanna managed to get one of those strokes back with a birdie on No. 14, but left a few shots on the course with missed birdie opportunities.
“I had birdie putts coming in and the two girls (Boutier and Moreno) were falling apart,” said Rohanna. “I had a 4-iron in on No. 18. I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, they’re handing me this.'”
But Rohanna settled for par and fourth place.
“I’m still happy with how I played today. I fought hard at the end,” said Rohanna. “I’m glad I played well at this tournament with a big purse.
“I’m really happy with how I’m playing. I can feel a win is in the near future. I’m getting closer. I’m feeling comfortable with everything.”
