Rams defeat West Greene, 39-14
Rochester carried a 24-8 lead into halftime Friday night and the Rams made the advantage stand in the second half for a 39-14 victory over West Greene in the opening round of WPIAL Class A playoffs.
Rochester (8-2) advances to play Jeannette, who defeated Monessen, 49-0, in the Class A quarterfinals.
The Rams led 16-0 in the second quarter when the Pioneers’ Zach Pettit scored on an 80-yard run. Pettit finished with 124 yards rushing on 13 carries.
Caleb Collins scored his second touchdown of the first half to give Rochester a 24-8 halftime lead.
Collins scored on an 8-yard touchdown for the lone score of the third quarter. Collins carried the ball 19 times for 116 yards.
Mahlik Strozier’s 12-yard run extended Rochester’s lead to 39-7 in the fourth quarter. Strozier gained 125 yards rushing on 19 carries.
The Pioneers scored a late touchdown when Gavin Scott hit Nathan Brudnock on 6-yard touchdown pass.
