Rohanna shares first-round lead

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Rachel Rohanna carded five birdies on her back nine Friday afternoon for a share of the first-round lead in the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout in El Dorado, Ark.

Rohanna and Dottie Ardina both shot 5-under 67 to enter Saturday’s second round with a share of the lead.

Rohanna opened on No. 10 and had a bogey on her second hole, but carded birdie on her third to go out in even-par 36.

The Waynesburg Central graduate made the turn with a birdie on No. 10, and then went on a string with consecutive birdies on No. 13 through 16 to play her back nine in 5-under 31.

“It was pretty solid,” Rohanna said of her round. “I had lots of close shots and made some good putts.

“I had a couple of shaky tee shots, but made good approach shots and some really good up-and-downs.”

Fewer than 20 golfers played the first round under par.

“This course is just so tough. I just hit it really well and had the past experience to know when to not go at pins,” said Rohanna, adding, “But, it feels great to have a good score on a good course and be leading. There will be some more low scores, but happy with my first round.”
