Rohanna makes the cut in New Zealand
Rachel Rohanna followed up a solid first round with an even stronger second round Friday to make the cut at the McKayson New Zealand Women’s Open.
With the projected cut to be even par or 1-over, the Waynesburg Central graduate will advance to Saturday’s third round with a two-day total of 5-under 139 at Windross Farm Golf Course near Auckland, New Zealand.
Rohanna fired a 4-under 68 in the second round after opening with a 1-under 71 in Thursday’s first round.
Rohanna opened on the back nine in the second round and carded four birdies to go out in 4-under 32. She finished with nine pars on her back nine.
“I had a bogey-free 4-under today,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger.
She hit 11-of-14 fairways and 16-of-18 greens in regulation in the second round, while she made 10-of-14 fairways and only 9-of-18 greens in regulation.
Rohanna needed 30 putts in the second round after just 26 in the first round.
Rohanna also had four birdies in the first round, but also had three bogeys. She played the front nine with a bogey and eight pars to go out in 1-over 37. Rohanna had a better time on the back nine with four birdies and two bogeys to come back in 2-under 34.
“It could’ve been really low both yesterday and today. I think I’ve missed five putts inside 6 feet in the last two days,” said Rohanna. “But other than that, I’m hitting the ball really good and giving myself lots of looks.”
