Yellow Jackets advance to PAC quarterfinals

The Waynesburg women used a 30-point second quarter to pull away from visiting Westminster Monday night and secure an 86-71 victory in the first round of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference basketball playoffs.

The Yellow Jackets (15-11) advance to the quarterfinals and will play Wednesday at Grove City at 7 p.m. Westminster finishes the season at 7-19.

The Titans were leading 16-13 after the first quarter, but Waynesburg outscored the visitors, 30-14, for a 43-30 halftime lead. 

The Yellow Jackets then kept Westminster at bay in the second half, holding a slight 43-41 scoring advantage.

Waynesburg converted 14-of-27 attempts from 3-point range, led by Erin Joyce’s 5-of-8 shooting from long range. Joyce shared team-scoring honors with Rachel Eng at 17 points apiece.

Andrea Orlosky finished with 12 points and Monica Starre added 10.

Emily Fromknecht led Westminster with a game-high 20 points.
