CONNELLSVILLE — The Connellsville Falcons, of Section 2-AAA, and the visiting Waynesburg Raiders, from Section 4-AAA, got together Monday night for a non-section match.

Connellsville was down several wrestlers because of illness, injury and disciplinary action, and Waynesburg was able to take full advantage of the short-handed Falcons for a 62-13 win to run their record to 9-1 overall.

The Raiders showed their dominance, recording six pins and a technical fall, plus they were helped along with three Connellsville forfeits.

“This is one of the better performances we’ve had against Connellsville in a lot of years,” WaynesburgĢƵ Joe Throckmorton said. “We knew they some guys out of the lineup. Everyone has bumps and bruises at this time of year. We even sat our 145-pounder.

“Connellsville is a lot better team than what they showed tonight.”

The match started at 160 pounds with Connellsville sophomore Casper Hinklie giving the Falcons an early 4-0 lead with an 8-0 major decision over Caleb Stephenson.

Waynesburg came back with six straight wins to open up a 33-4 lead.

Caleb Blair started the win with a decision at 170. Kyle Homet received a forfeit at 182. In the 195-pound bout, Luke Robinson had the fastest pin of the night at 29 seconds.

Spencer Lesinsky followed with a first-period pin at 220 pounds. Ryan Howard received a forfeit at 285. Hunter Shriver followed that with a hard-earned, third-period pin against Alex Tuchek at 106.

Tuchek used two takedowns to take a 4-3 lead in the first period. Shriver got an escape to start the second, but gave up a takedown and got another escape to trail 6-5 going into the third period, where he was able to turn Tuchek for the fall at 4:33 of the match.

Shawn Thomas stoped the bleeding for Connellsville with a 17-2 technical fall over Mike Medlin at 113, at the 4:08 mark of the match.

“We had several guys out of the lineup tonight for various reasons,” ConnellsvilleĢƵ Jesse Swink said. “I think tonightĢƵ match should get us refocused on what we need to do to face good teams like Waynesburg. The guys that won for us tonight in Mason Franks, Thomas and Hinklie, stepped it up and performed well.”

Wyatt Henson got those points back for the Raiders with a 16-1 technical fall over Dylan Keefer, giving Waynesburg a 38-9 lead.

Franks got the Falcons’ final points of the night with a 16-5 major decision over Nate Stephenson at 126 pounds.

Waynesburg closed out the match with four straight wins. Caleb Morris got a pin at 132. Luca Augustine received a forfeit at 138. Jackson Henson moved up to 145 to get a second-period pin over Colin Franks and Trey Howard ended the night with a second-period pin over Seth Kuhns at 152 pounds.

“I think both Wyatt and Jackson Henson wrestled very well for us tonight against two good kids from Connellsville,” Throckmorton said. ” Overall, I’m pleased with our effort. I felt all of our guys wrestled well tonight.”
