By For The Greene County Messenger 1 min read

The Mohawk boys and girls were just too deep for host Waynesburg Central and Derry Tuesday afternoon as the two squads advanced to the WPIAL Class AA Team Track & Field Championships.

The Mohawk boys defeated the Raiders, 90-60, and Trojans, 95-54. Derry slipped past Waynesburg, 76-74.

The Mohawk girls won both of their semifinal meets, beating the Lady Raiders, 101-49, and Lady Trojans, 101-48. Derry salvaged a win by beating Waynesburg, 81-67.

Waynesburg’s Daniel Layton (110 high hurdles, 14.65), Caleb Shriver (100, 11.41; triple jump, 42-5), Juliana Fowler (long jump, 15-4), Madison Brooks (shot put, 36-8; discus, 95-10), and Scott Benco (javelin, 159-4) all had overall first-place finishes.

Waynesburg’s Taylor Shriver and Mohawk’s Abbey Westcott both cleared 10 feet in the pole vault. The Raiders’ Will Behm and Layton, and Mohawk’s Jacob Romano all vaulted 13 feet.
