Lady Pioneers place 15th in PIAA cross country finals

Freshman Katie Lampe led the West Greene girls to the finish line in the PIAA Class A Cross Country Team Championships held at Hershey last Saturday, placing 38th for team scoring and 92nd overall with a time of 22:40.

The Lady Pioneers finished 15th in the team standings with 360 points.

Conditions for the final cross country meet in the state were similar to those throughout the fall season: windy and muddy. Rain came through Hershey Friday night, making for a muddy track. The runners also dealt with windy, cold conditions.

Lady Pioneers freshman Brooke Barner was 132nd overall and 63rd for team scoring in 23:23. Seniors Ashley Cumberledge (147, 76, 23:37), McKenna Lampe (159, 85, 23:59), and Madison Lampe (176, 98, 24:36) wrapped up the scoring runs for West Greene. Sarah Collins (208, 124, 28:47) and Danielle Fox (215, 130, 32:36) also competed for the Lady Pioneers.

Marion Center won the Class A team title with 96 points. Union City was second with 139. Vincentian Academy had the top WPIAL finish, placing fourth with 159 points.

Loyalsock senior Isabell Sagar finished first in Class A in a winning time 19:12. Portage Area’s Lauren Shaffer was second in 19:51 and Wilmington’s Grace Mason placed third in 19:58.

North Allegheny was the Class AAA girls team champion with 65 points. West Chester Henderson freshman Jenna Mulhern won the individual gold medal with a time of 18:42.

Sophomore Lucas Pajak led a trio of Ringgold runners to the finish line in the boys Class AA race, finishing 33rd overall in 17:45. Eric Obringer, a senior, finished 81st overall in 18:15. Ethan Gamble crossed the finish line with the same time two places back.

Uniontown senior Sam Killinger placed 56th overall in 18 minutes. Laurel Highlands junior Brendan Kopich was 160th in 19:01.

Greensburg Salem won the boys Class AA team title with 63 points. Grove City senior Jonah Powell won the individual gold medal with a time of 16:29.

Jenkintown won the boys Class A team title with 49 points, led by senior Jack Miller’s gold medal-winning performance in 16:33.

The North Allegheny boys also won the Class AAA team gold medal with 90 points. The WPIAL had the first three individual places with Mt. Lebanon junior Patrick Anderson first in 16:03, followed by North Allegheny’s Zachary Kinne (16:07) and Daniel McGoey (16:09).
